The Olympic spirit once again returns to Utah with tryouts for the U.S. Bobsled Team held at the Utah Olympic Oval on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Organized by local athlete and Olympic hopeful Jay Noller, The U.S. Bobsled Team Recruiting Tour comes to Salt Lake City after stops in San Antonio, Orlando, Boise and Denver.

With the 2010 winter Olympics approaching, the U.S. Bobsled Team Recruiting Tour invites male athletes over 18 years old from the Salt Lake City area to tryout for the chance to compete in the 2009-2010 bobsled season. Salt Lake City is one of only nine cities chosen to host open tryouts for U.S. Bobsled Team.

Tryouts will test athletes’ speed, strength, agility and explosiveness with 60-meter sprints, a vertical-jump test, a medicine ball toss and a 15-meter sled pull. Qualifying athletes will receive the opportunity to sign a one-year development deal, allowing them to compete against the best bobsledders in the world.

U.S. Bobsled driver Jay Noller lives in Salt Lake City and trains at the Utah Olympic Park. Noller joined the U.S. Bobsled Team after trying out in 2006, and he strives to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, after gaining an addition to his two-man bobsled team from the Recruiting Tour.

Athletes who wish to tryout should arrive at the Utah Olympic Oval 30 minutes prior to the event to register. Local media are also welcome to attend the event.
